Abundant Waves of Corn was inspired by two books; George Orwell's "Animal Farm" and Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged." This cartoon aims to distinguish scarcity of energy from abundance of energy. The left frame features the infamous, derelict windmill of Manor Farm and the barren fields resulting from the extreme scarcity of energy production. The right frame imagines Galt's Gulch from Atlas Shrugged as a lush field sprinkled with giant corn. All of which were possible thanks to the over abundance of nuclear energy. Last but not least, the title Abundant Waves of Corn is a derivation of the verse from "America the Beautiful"...Amber Waves of Grain.
