Kialara fans now have a chance to acquire a bar and support the cause of an indigenous community in Brazil. The Sapukai village comprises over 400 people of which more than half are children under 14 years old.

These people belong to the Guarani tribe, the most numerous indigenous group in Brazil. The Sapukai village is located in the city of Angra dos Reis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The village is less than 30km away from the closest city center and it has been increasingly affected by the expansion of urbanization and deforestation surrounding their area.

My name is Yasmim Franceschi, and I am deeply concerned about the situation of indigenous people in my country. I work with Max Mellenbruch and I asked for his help to support the Sapukai community. He agreed to auction an unfunded Kialara (2015 original 1BTC with Silver unfunded) and have the funds sent to the Sapukai community.

When I met the Sapukai village I had a beautiful encounter with a vibrant people. I was enchanted by their songs, their colorful handcrafts and by the shine in the eyes of their children.

The Vice-Chief told me about their current situation and explained that the Sapukai community has been facing a harsh time since the beginning of the pandemic and the decline in tourism, which has made them unable to sell their handcraft, their main source of income.

The death of their Chief and Pajé (shaman) due to COVID has also deeply affected the strength and organization of this community. Currently, the tribe relies on donations of food and basic supplies to maintain their children and youth.

The funds deriving from this auction will be used to develop 5 main projects that promote economic autonomy for this community specially through sustainable tourism and preservation of their culture and traditions:

Buying instruments for their traditional choir;
Building and equipping a community kitchen;
Renovating the main prayer house of the community;
Building lodges to host tourists and volunteers;
Creating a virtual shop for selling their handcrafts.

In this link you can find out more about the current issues faced by Guarani and other indigenous communities in Brazil:

All the best,

- Yasmim Franceschi
