This is an image that conveys wealth – the idea of enjoying the spoils of your riches. The artist brings into play a combination of reflection and refraction to spread well-lit drama across a dark, sophisticated background. The viewer can almost smell the bourbon in the glass.
About the artist:
Michael Naples is an American painter best known for his still lifes, commissioned portraits, and landscapes. Many of his still lifes depict a combination of food and drinks with textures or objects with patina. The artist utilizes the "wet on wet" oil paint technique on a small scale, and calls his work contemporary realism. Born in 1979 in Illinois USA, he earned his BFA degree from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. The artist cites an article about daily painting as inspiration for his prolific career. His photobook Squared, published in 2011, features works from throughout his oeuvre and is available on Amazon. Naples still lives and works near Chicago, IL.
